THE JAMES VAN COOPER STORY 2018

In March of 2018 Australian Country artiste James Van Cooper travelled to LA to record an album with US Music Producer Scott Campbell. Scott is the creative partner of Glen Ballard and together they’ve worked on recordings with Katy Perry, No Doubt and Alanis Morissettes “Jagged Little Pill”, while more recently Scott’s produced Shelby Lynne’s “I Can’t Imagine”

James bunkered down with Scott for near a month in LA's Calabasas studio and has returned to Australia with 10 track debut album. James' new record veers clear from the country musics recent experimentation with Hip Hop and Millennial Pop. His new body of work offers a sound that is best described as edgy country rock. James' album will appeal to a mass market but without fear or favour the record is still proudly tinged with old school country and Americana. On this new record James collaborates with US Alt/Country darling Jaime Wyatt with James and Jaime performing a breathtaking duet. Also featured on the album is Americanas most in demand pedal steal Guitar player Matt Pynn (Miley Cyrus) who weaves his twangy magic throughout the sessions. Accompanying Jaime and Matt cameos on the record are a collection of LA session musicians that have bought a rich vein of creativity to the project.

James wrote the entire record, performs lead vocals and plays both acoustic and lead guitar on his debut LP. His music illustrates an artiste that is both elegant and cool, with James also utilising this record to highlight his much lauded guitar skills.

James unashamedly tips his hat to the likes of Dave Rawlings and Lyle Lovett while peppering that classic sound with his own contemporary country rock blend.

This is a record for both the country music heartland and beyond and will be released in late July 2018.
